I know no-one's going to answer this, but that's a question I've wondered about. Fortunately, it doesn't affect me negatively - Malin Akerman deserves to be seen in 1080p - but I don't like to see genre fans missing out.

This wouldn't be the worst choice ever. Webb's directorial debut, (500) Days of Summer - my review - is overrated, but there are enough flourishes and comedic moments to suggest he'd comfortably handle the requisite humour of any Spidey outing.
